Roy Herrington

July 21, 1955 — April 30, 2021

Brandon, MS

Roy Ponder Herrington, 65, received his angel wings on the morning of April 30, 2021. He passed away at his home embraced by his wife and daughter. Roy was born on July 21, 1955 in Lucedale, MS. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. R.P. Herrington, Jr. of Hermanville, MS, his mother, Jewel T. Yarbrough Herrington of Kentwood, LA, and his twin brother, Ray Hubert Herrington of Raymond, MS. Roy was a graduate of Wingfield High School and Devry Institute of Technology in Dallas, TX. He and his wife Brenda were the successful owners of Pelahatchie Bay Trading Post for 40 years and a member of First Baptist Church of Fannin, where he was a Sunday School teacher.

His loving devotion to his Savior, wife, daughter, and family were always on display. You could commonly hear Roy calling for his grandson, Cole, by saying, “Where’s my boy?” Roy was an avid outdoorsman and a pillar of the Fannin community in which he lived and served. Roy never missed an opportunity to share God’s love and Word with anyone that he came in contact with. “Have fun and make us proud”, “Bless you, Bless you, Bless you”,  “ Thank You, Thank You, Thank You” were just a few of the phrases you could count on hearing when you came into the store. His smile and personality were larger than life, and we find comfort in knowing that he is rejoicing with his Heavenly Father as we speak.

Roy is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Brenda Allen Herrington, his daughter, Rachel Herrington Bilbro (J.C.), his grandson, Joseph Cole Bilbro, II, his brother, Bobby Herrington (Wanda) and his sister, Hilda Herrington Askew (Billy dec.), Mary Herrington (Ray dec.) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Visitation will be at Ott & Lee Funeral home in Brandon on Sunday, May 2nd from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. and at First Baptist Church of Fannin on Monday from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Service will begin at 3 p.m. with graveside service to follow. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to First Baptist Church of Fannin.
