Robert Spears

November 14, 1932 — July 23, 2020

Brandon, MS

Robert Charles Spears passed away peacefully on the morning of July 23, 2020 surrounded by his family. Dad had fought the good fight with various illnesses, but had been loving and cheerful until the end. Dad accepted the help afforded him with grace and thankfulness. He received exceptional love and care, mostly from his two daughters Carol and Ann. Carol had been his constant companion and caregiver after mother passed and provided great care until the very end. He was welcomed by the Lord into an everlasting peace, and immediately after that, I suppose he hugged his beloved wife Louise who passed away a few years back. Daddy was born in Glen Allan, MS on November 14, 1932 to Bruce and Kathleen Spears. After graduation from Glen Allan High School, he and mom were married on April 28th 1950, and were married 67 years until she passed away in 2017. In her final years, through his compassionate and patient care, he showed us what unrelenting and unconditional love truly looks like. He was both an unstoppable force and a gentle reminder of what home should feel like. Together they loved and raised 5 children, mostly at 1259 Belfast Street in Greenville, MS. He went to work for U.S. Gypsum, where he remained until retirement after 43 years of service. He was very involved in the lives of his family. He asked for nothing, but gave everything. He coached little league baseball and cheered at Friday night football games…. Dad was always there. He was a calming presence in a chaotic world. He was a member in good standing at Calvary Baptist Church in Greenville, MS. for over 30 years. “Big Daddy” was well respected in the community, at work, and was regarded as a fair-minded person who always took care of his business. After retirement our parents moved to Pelahatchie, MS. They immediately joined Pelahatchie Baptist Church and were active until age and illness made that impractical. He leaves behind Bill Spears (Mitzi) of Hattiesburg MS, Carol Irby of Pelahatchie, Ann Cordell (Ricky) of Pelahatchie, Bob Spears of Eagle Lake MS, Paul Spears (Beverly) of Olive Branch MS, daughters in law Brenda Spears of Hattiesburg and Dixie Livingston of Canton, MS. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 1 great- great grandchild. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. David Cordell, Roland Cordell, Will Cordell, Drew Spears, Matt Spears, Justin Spears, Josh Spears, Peyton Irby, Bryan Irby, Brandon Spears, Hunter Spears and Mark Worley. He is preceded in death by his parents Bruce and Kathleen Spears, wife Louise Spears, sister Jean Countryman, and grandchildren Michael Shawn Maines, and Reagan Elizabeth Woolbright. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral services will be held Saturday July 25 at Pelahatchie Baptist Church.. Visitation will be at 2PM; services will be at 3 PM.
