Robert Donald Bridges, age 80, of Brandon, Mississippi, passed away on November 8, 2018 after a brief illness. He graduated from Brandon High School in 1955, and earned his BS in Chemistry (Magna Cum Laude) from Mississippi College in 1959. Robert was a research chemist with Dow Chemical, where he worked for 34 years in Plaquemine, LA and Lake Jackson, TX. Robert excelled in both the technical and business aspects of his profession. He earned two patents for Chlor-Alkali processes, and played a critical role in Dow’s negotiations with domestic and international companies in the chemical industry. In 1993, Robert retired as the Director of Research & Development Department, and returned to Brandon.
Robert was a member of First Baptist Church of Brandon, where he taught children’s Sunday School for many years. He loved to give of his time to help others, including hosting events for First Baptist, such as fishing parties and Easter Egg hunts.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Donald Jehue Bridges and Ruth Miles Bridges, and his sister, Margie Gallant.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, JoAnn Rockett Bridges; son, Robert Donald Bridges, Jr. and his wife, Alexandra; son, Philip David Bridges; five grandchildren, David, Maggie, Robbie, Katelin and William; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home, 1360 W. Government Street, Brandon, MS 39042, with Rev. Beth Bowman and Rev. Rodney Bounds officiating. Burial will take place in Floral Hills Memory Garden in Pearl.
