R.E. Means

April 14, 1942 — June 3, 2022

Brandon, MS

R.E. (Skinner) Means, surrounded by his loving family, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 3, 2022, after a long illness due to an automobile accident. Born on April 14, 1942, to Luther Edward and Grace Huff Means, he was a lifetime resident of Rankin County, having lived in Brandon the last 58 years.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022, from 12:30 pm to 2:15 pm at Brandon Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 2:30 pm with interment in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS.

Mr. Means owned and operated Means Shell, Inc. in Brandon for 32 years. He also served in the Mississippi National Guard and Army Reserve for 7 years.

He loved owning and operating his own business and looked forward to being there at 5:00 am to start greeting his customers and friends who gathered every morning for the coffee club which he began. He had a heart of gold when it came to helping people and was known for his kindness and generosity throughout the years. He was a charter member of Brandon Baptist Church, where he served the church in many different areas.

Mr. Means was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Betty Means Dyess and a brother, Sam T. Means. His father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence Earl and Grace Myers Vance and his brother-in-law, Charles E. Vance.

He loved his family dearly with a special love for his 3 grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Linda Vance Means; two sons, Christopher Means and his wife Lynn, and Edward Means and his wife Gretchen, all of Brandon; three grandchildren, Sessums Means, Chase Means, and Sley Means; two brothers, Jackie Means of Pelahatchie, and Johnny Means of Vicksburg.

Serving as pallbearers are Sessums Means, Chase Means, Tom Kennedy, Noel Daniels, Gary Tucker, George Bobo, Scott Gardner, and Fred Shanks.

The Max Gilliland Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Brandon Baptist Church building fund, 100 Brandon Baptist Church Drive. Brandon, MS 39042.
