Nancy Measels

Mrs. Nancy Measels, age 80, a resident of Lena Mississippi, passed into the presence of her Lord Jesus Christ Tuesday, November 16, 2021, in her home.  She battled cancer for several years.  Nancy was born in Crystal Springs to Mary Kathryn Berry.  She was later adopted by Hollis Burton.  She has a half-brother, Keith Burton who served in Vietnam and was later a police officer.

Nancy received her license in Cosmetology and was a hairdresser, a photograph editor, worked in retail at Cooper Rd Drugstore, Gibson’s/Howard Brothers and Walmart.  She was also a long-time employee at General Electric Lamp Plant on Hwy 80 across from Battlefield Park in Jackson.

Nancy married early in life Glen Johnson.  Together they had four children - Kathy (1957), Lisa (1960), Gary (1963), Robin (1967).  Nancy later remarried in 1980 to Barney Measels of Ludlow.  Barney served in the Marine Corps. Together they helped raise granddaughter Mindy McNair.  Nancy is survived by her loving husband Barney, her 4 children, 17 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren (who knew her affectionately as Granny).

It was obvious to all who knew her that Nancy’s priorities were eternal ones - God and people.  Her dream was to build a home, plant a garden, and personally decorate in a way to make family and friends feel at home and well-fed.   It was meaningful to her until the end to tend her home, care for her garden and welcome any family that passed through.

Most importantly Nancy understood her need for a savior.  Nancy was a faithful member at Pinelake Church and was a part of women’s small group bible studies.  Nancy had a heart for older saints and would regularly visit lonely souls in nursing homes.  She has now seen her Savior, Jesus, face-to-face and has become like Him, for she sees Him as He is.

A Celebration of Life Service will be hosted for Nancy by Pine Lake Church on Tuesday, November 23rd at 1:45 pm. All are welcome. The address is 6071 MS Hwy 25, Brandon, MS 39047.
