Born Leora Jeannine Turpin on September 19, 1928 to parents James Robert Turpin and Nancy Leora Wedell Turpin in Graford Texas. She grew up on a ranch and helped with the “chores.”   She attended Graford School and after graduation she attended John Tarleton College and went on to Texas State College for Women where she graduated in the top of her class with a BS in Art and Fashion Design in 1949. After graduating from college, she went to work for Southwestern Geophysical as an office manager. In 1964 the family moved to Pearl Mississippi where Jeannine lived until her death.

She met her husband, Cleve, in Denver CO, was married in Denver and moved to Tulsa Oklahoma to start a family. Her oldest son, Robert was born in 1954 and daughter, Nancy was born in 1955. The family moved to Fort Worth Texas where they lived until 1964.  She was a voracious reader and always had her Kindle close to her.

She was an extraordinary cook and seamstress and loved to work in the yard always having an extensive vegetable garden. She was a stay at home mother and was active in her children’s lives and loved sharing her vast knowledge with friends and neighbors.

Her youngest son, Steven was born at Harris Hospital in Fort Worth Texas in 1962. Her youngest son was diagnosed with Leukemia in 1979 and she threw herself into the task of caring for and seeking the best medical care for him.

She is survived by her son Robert C. Shivers of Jackson MS, her daughter Nancy N. Shivers (Sharon) of Raymond MS and her sister, Lynette Ingram of Abilene TX who just recently turned 100. Along the way she adopted a family in Boutte Louisiana who were good friends of her oldest son where she became Nana for “her little girl”, Shelby Barr Hooper, along with Dennis, Marsha, Thais and Steve Barr. She sewed extensively for Shelby and made her many one of a kind outfits for various seasons of the year.  She was preceded in death by her parents, James Robert and Leora Turpin and her son Steven Myers Shivers.

A memorial service will be held for her soon. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to The Mississippi Chorus, P O Box 13407, Jackson MS 39236 or Grace House Services, P O Box 68924, Jackson MS 39286 both charities are close to her son’s heart and therefore close to hers.
