It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Morris Yates, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather. He passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the age of 85.
Born on June 11, 1940, in Smith County, Mississippi, to Joseph “Bill” and Quay Butler Yates, Morris lived a life defined by dedication and love. In 1961, he married his childhood sweetheart, Elaine Baldwin. Together, they built a beautiful life, raised two daughters, and shared an incredible 63 years of marriage.
Morris served for many years as an accountant for MFC Services and an executive at Computer Service Center, traveling around Mississippi and Louisiana supporting local farmer cooperatives. Farming and being outdoors was his true passion. He was also a man of faith and a longtime member of White Oak Baptist Church. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his steadfast commitment to his family, and the joy he found in being a grandfather.
Morris is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph "Bill" and Quay Yates, and his son-in-law, James Arthur. He is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine Yates; his daughters, Tracy Yates and Tammy Arthur (Kevin Pauli); his grandchildren, Meagan Pauli, Lee Arthur, and Meredith Arthur; his sister, Ellen Turpin Roache; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly.
A visitation will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 11:00 a.m., with burial at White Oak Cemetery.
