Pennsylvania native and longtime Mississippi resident Wayne E. Nixon died August 23 in Jackson, MS. Mr. Nixon was born January 16, 1944 to Harry and Alice Nixon in Williamsport, PA.
Wayne served with distinction in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war as a fire control officer. He survived numerous special operations during his time in Vietnam. After returning from the war, Wayne received a degree in computer science from Penn State University. He pursued a career in computing technology and eventually retired after rising to the Director of Information Systems at McCarty Farms.
In 1970 Wayne married his first wife, Carrie, with whom he had two children, Gary and Danielle. They moved to New Orleans for many years and then in 1995 moved to Mississippi. Carrie died in Brandon in 1998. In 2002, Wayne married June Ellis with whom he lived happily for his final eighteen years. Wayne loved the outdoors, hunting, golf, shooting sports, and shooting the bull with friends in all those activities. Wayne cared for all people, but most of all he loved his family. He was a loving husband and fiercely proud father. We have all been made better for knowing him and will feel his loss profoundly.
Wayne is survived by his wife June (nee Ellis) Nixon, son Gary, daughter Danielle, and sisters Donna and Carol. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Alice (nee McQuay) Nixon, sister Diane and first wife Carrie.
