Vera Carolyn Pulliam Harrell passed from her earthly life of 95 years into the presence of Jesus in heaven Sunday, October 25, 2026. She was born on April 30, 1931, in Walnut, Mississippi, to Holmes and Lillian Byrd Pulliam and a member of Harmony Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Walnut High School and earned a B.S. degree from Blue Mountain College.
Upon graduation, she worked as a secretary at First Baptist Church, Memphis, TN, as a secretary of the Brotherhood Commission, Memphis, as a secretary at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis, and as secretary for the Annuity Board, SBC, Dallas, Texas.
She married James Harrell on December 23, 1978. They enjoyed a happy life together for 33 years. Her stepchildren were blessed to welcome and love her into the Harrell family. She and Jim hosted and served many delicious meals and family gatherings in their home. Carolyn never missed sending grandchildren and great grands a birthday card which always included birthday money.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Iris Pulliam Stinson, Mansel Pulliam, Annie Pulliam, and James Pulliam. Her surviving nieces and nephew are Beverly Smith of Collierville, TN, Ruth Williams of Oxford, MS, and Richard Thomas of Madison, MS. She also had many dear friends who loved Carolyn and had many wonderful experiences with them throughout the years, including Joyce Campbell, Memphis, TN and Nancy Wilson, Cordova, TN.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Peach Tree Village in Brandon, MS for their loving care during Carolyn’s 15 month stay at this assisted care facility.
Her four stepchildren include, Grace King, Brandon, MS, David Harrell (Amy), Lilburn, GA, Mark Harrell, Keil, TX, and Philip Harrell (Alyson), Atlanta, GA, as well as eight step grandchildren.
Carolyn sang in the Reflections Choir at First Baptist Jackson, MS, where she and husband Jim were members. She enjoyed the fellowship as a member in other ministries in the church as well. She often quoted her favorite lines as a concluding prayer:
"You are doing the best you can with what you have, where you are for Jesus' sake today"
Praise the Lord for His faithful child and servant, Carolyn Pulliam Harrell. Her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is now sight.
“When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.”
