Vera Mae Black, age 87, a resident of Forest, died Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Friday, July 25, 2025, from the chapel of the OTT & LEE Funeral Home in Forest with interment to follow in the Eastern Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 am till the service time. Pastor Josh Miller will officiate with Amy Miller doing the eulogy.
She was born on October 20, 1937, in Fairdealing, MO, to her parents, Oma Rook Richmond and Ray Richmond. She later moved to Mississippi. She loved her family, visiting with friends, and loved the outdoors. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Les Black, and a son, Dennis Black.
She is survived by her two children, Cheryl Kennedy (Jeff) of Forest, Chris Black (Crystal) of Brandon, and daughter-in-law Teresa Black. Siblings, Raymond Richmond (June) of Brandon, Ronald Richmond (Nancy) of Forest, Pam Leach (Doyle) of Lake, Debbie Boykin (Wendall) of Bowie, TX, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Richmond of Doniphan, MO. She also leaves behind a legacy of five grandchildren: David Black (Tasha) of Bay Springs, Daniel Kennedy (Carol Anne) of Ridgeland, Randy Black of Forest, Orry Black of Brandon, Amy Miller of Texarkana, TX. Six great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, as well as several great nieces, great nephews, and a host of friends.
Pallbearers are David Black, Randy Black, Daniel Kennedy, Mason Certain, Doyle Leach, and Allen Short. Honorary pallbearers are Orry Black and Devin Hodge.
