Tonia Jerald Benton was born on August 28, 1942, in Harperville, MS, and passed away on June 5, 2026, in Pearl, MS. He dedicated most of his life to construction, starting work at a young age to help his family with farming tasks like feeding chickens and cows and picking cotton. He began his career at BC Rogers in Morton, MS, then worked with his uncle in Jackson, MS. Later, he moved his family to Jackson and worked with the Carpenters Local Union, rising to officer status and mentoring many young men in the trade. He became a master craftsman and eventually started his own business until his retirement in 2010.

After retiring, Tonia and his wife, Jean, traveled across the United States and Canada, especially enjoying trips out West. They later took up camping by the lake, sharing a love for fishing and participating in competitions and tournaments.

Tonia was a devoted member of the Moose Lodge for over 30 years, serving in every position, some twice, and was honored as State President of the Moose Lodge Association. He was known for his kindness and generosity, always ready to help others and deeply proud of his family.

He is survived by his bride, Jean Benton; his sons, Tony Jerald Benton, Jr (Lori), Floyd Kenneth Benton (Dana Griffin), and Timothy Dale Benton; seven grandchildren: Carey Benton, Emily Benton McLain (Chris), Hunter Benton (Ashton), Sydney Clair Lynn (Jerrett), Ashley Harding (Cody), Chloe Scott (Braxton), and Timothy Benton; six great-grandchildren: Brooks Benton, Wade McLain, Raelynn McLain, Bodie Benton, Lynlee Jean Hardin, and Millie Harding; and two nephews, Tommy Benton and David Benton.

Tonia was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Joy Benton; mother, Edna Aline Greer Benton; and brother, Stanley Joy Benton.

Services will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, June 8, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and again on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:45 am. The funeral service will follow on June 9 at 11:00 am. Tonia’s family and friends will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family.
