Tommy was born on March 8, 1942, In rural Scott County. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Callie Jewell "Judy" Withers Woods; his beloved parents, Velma and Wilson Woods; his brother Abner Woods; and his sister, Rena Woods Gatewood.
Tommy lost his parents when he was tittle more than a boy. His dedicated extended family stepped in to fill the loss. His mother's sisters, brothers, and their children taught him a trade that led to him becoming a master craftsman in the construction world. Most Importantly, he learned to love the Lord and follow His lead.
Tommy served the Lord all of his days and reared his family to serve. The most precious memory his children have is seeing Tommy sitting in his favorite recliner reading God's Word every day. In this environment, Tommy's true personality was revealed through his love of rhyming phrases for every occasion. This quiet man never raised his voice as he led his family and the many neighborhood children who gathered at his table to eat or in his yard for a game of football or badminton. Tommy gave freely and openly to anyone who had a need whether financial, emotional, or spiritual.
Tommy loved his Lord, his family, and his church. He served as deacon at Goodhope for more than half a century. During this time, pastors were always welcomed and encouraged to eat a meal with him and Ms. Judy. His carpentry skills were put to good use as Tommy "fixed" any issues that arose. His love for the church body remained strong as he turned toward his heavenly home.
Tommy leaves behind a tangible legacy of three children: Ann Durham (Mike), Jeff Woods (Patricia), and Tammy Bell (Greg) all of Forest, MS. Nine grandchildren: Lacey Woods, Andy Woods, John Woods (Brianna), Stephen Woods; Michael Ann Durham and John Cade Durham (Samantha); Kristi Wade (Matt), Colton Bell, and Jocey Spire (Zeb); and 16 great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Andy Woods, Jonathan Woods, Stephen Woods, Colton Bell, John Cade Durham, and Brody Durham.
