Tommy Leach, a remarkable man whose spirit touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully at his home in Brandon, Mississippi, surrounded by his family, on August 24, 2025. Born on February 13, 1938, in Walnut Grove, Mississippi, he was a beacon of kindness and generosity, known for his unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Following his enlistment in the United States Army in September 1957 and an honorable discharge two years later, Tommy dedicated his life to serving his community. He began his career as a bus driver for the City of Jackson before joining the Jackson Fire Department, where he served with distinction for 32 years before retiring. Additionally, Tommy shared his entrepreneurial spirit with the community by owning Leach Painting and Pressure Washing Company.
Tommy’s love for education led him to graduate from Hinds Jr. College with an Associate's degree in Fire Science. An avid Ole Miss fan, he celebrated his passion for football by holding season tickets for an impressive 65 years. His enjoyment extended beyond sports, as he had a profound appreciation for music, being a devoted fan of Elvis, Tina Turner, Celine Dion, and the Gathers. He cherished moments spent traveling, particularly to Las Vegas, where the lights and shows captivated his heart. Alongside these interests, he found solace in nature, relishing opportunities to go fishing.
A cherished member of the Grace Baptist Church, Tommy deeply valued his church family and was an active participant in his Glory Class Sunday School class. His faith was a guiding force in his life, leading him to read the entire Bible numerous times—a testament to his dedication and belief.
Tommy’s warm and loving personality left an indelible mark on those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a man who never met a stranger, always eager to hear a story, share a laugh, or offer support. His beloved dog, Dixie, was a constant companion, bringing him joy and protection throughout their years together.
He is survived by his loving children, Kimberly (Jonathan) Baker of Brandon, MS, and Tommy (Penny) Leach, Jr. of Hampton, AR; as well as an adoring family consisting of 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth (Rev. Jimmy) Elam of Madison, MS, and a special friend of 14 years, Ivonne Horn of Standing Pine, MS. Tommy leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Irene Leach; his son, Anthony Leach; his parents, B. H. Leach and Alma Bell Ellis Leach; and his brothers, Sammy Leach and John E. Leach.
As we remember Tommy, let us hold dear the many beautiful memories and the profound impact he made on our lives. His spirit will forever remain a source of inspiration to all who had the honor of knowing him.
