Sonja Faye Bryant, born on December 4, 1938, in Rankin County, passed away peacefully at her home on July 20, 2025. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, known for her vibrant personality and warm spirit.
Sonja graduated from high school and began her professional journey at Lester and Witcher Abstract Company, where she skillfully managed oil leases. She would later continue her dedicated service as an Administrative Assistant with the Mississippi Department of Health until her retirement.
A woman of many talents, Sonja had a bubbly personality that drew people in. She enjoyed socializing with everyone around her and was known to brighten any room with her big heart and beautiful smile. Her love for the beauty shop was evident as she made it a weekly ritual every Thursday. Cooking was another passion; her pecan pies and strawberry pies were especially beloved by family and friends.
Sonja had a splendid appreciation for sports, often found watching basketball and football games on television. In her younger days, she was a star basketball player, showcasing her competitive spirit. She shared a deep love for the outdoors with her husband, Buck, with whom she enjoyed camping trips surrounded by family. It was not unusual to see Sonja tending to her lawn, happily riding her lawn mower around her home.
She is survived by her son, Robbie Gordon Bryant and his wife, Connie, of Pelahatchie. Sonja’s legacy lives on through her five grandchildren: Kimberly Vaughn (David), Hope Richard (Mikeal), Steve Bryant, Michael Beau Bryant, and Casey Bryant, along with her four great-grandchildren: Kaiden Bryant, Corey Deen (Camilla), Jared Deen (Meredith), and Sophia Richard. Additionally, she was a proud great-great-grandmother to Ava Deen and Lyla Deen. Sonja also treasured many close friends who will fondly remember her spirit.
Sonja was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Tommy Gordon and Mary Catherine Stingley Gordon, her husband, Buck Bryant, two stepsons, Danny Buck Bryant and Jimmy Michael Bryant, and her sister, Rita Easley.
Services in honor of Sonja Faye Bryant will be held on July 23, 2025, at Ott & Lee Funeral Homes in Morton. A visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. She will then be laid to rest at Rehobeth Baptist Cemetery in Pelahatchie. Due to the excessive heat there will be NO graveside service.
Sonja Faye Bryant will be deeply missed, leaving behind a tapestry of memories sewn together by love, laughter, and kindness.
