Sidney “Howard” Johnson, of Brandon, Mississippi, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in Jackson, Mississippi, at the age of 96.
A nearly lifelong resident of Brandon, he was born on February 3, 1929, in Brandon to Walter Johnson and Sarah Watkins Johnson. In 1946, he joined the United States Air Force, serving his country as a pilot in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During his service, he received the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service as well as the Distinguished Flying Cross (1967). He retired from the military in April 1968 and pursued his second career with the United States Postal Service before becoming an independent contractor. He was also a very active member of the Lions Club of Mississippi.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Sarah Johnson, and his daughter, Lori Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Sonya Lee Johnson; children, David Robert Johnson (Vanessa), Sandi Johnson, Jessica Keen (Kristin), and Josh Keen (Jennifer); sister, Betty Warren; grandchildren, Ainsley Keen, Peyton Minyard, and Parker Minyard; and one great grandchild, Jasper.
