Shirley Mae Jacobsen

Shirley Mae Jacobsen passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the age of 99. She was a loving mother, grandmother and a friend whose kindness touched so many lives. Visitation will be held on Fri. July 24, 2026 from 10am-11am at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral services are 11am on Fri. July 24, 2026 at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Brandon, MS.

Shirley was born on Feb. 8, 1927 in Thomasboro, IL to Harry W. and Ruth Lowary Manke. She married John S. Jacobsen “Jack” on July 27, 1946. She gave her heart to her family. Her love of music and the joy she shared dancing with her husband are memories we will cherish. She also became interested in golf and became a really good golfer. Above everything in her life, she relished time with her grandchildren. Together they made many fond memories from dying Easter eggs, batting balls in her yard and playing other games.

Shirley was a wonderful cook and had dishes, casseroles and pots and pans galore. At holiday times, she would arrive with cooked dishes ready to serve and a huge pan of dressing.

Shirley moved from Thomasboro, IL and then to Florida. She moved to Mississippi and lived at Patrick Farms in Pearl for 16 years. In her senior years she became a resident of Wisteria Gardens where she received loving long-term care until passing. We are deeply grateful to the staff at Wisteria for the passionate care they provided. They treated Shirley like one of their own and affectionately referred to her as “Grandma”. We also extend our appreciation to Gentiva Hospice for their help and compassionate care. We know she has reached the heavenly gates and was greeted by our Lord and Savior and her husband of almost 50 years.

She is survived by her son, John Jacobsen (Diane); her granddaughter, Tracey Jacobsen McKay (Josh) and Tricia Jacobsen Bennett (Alan) and 5 great grandchildren, Jake McKay, Hayes McKay, Millie McKay, Ella Claire Ingram and Maggie Jane Ingram.

In lieu of flowers, Shirley loved the MS Agricultural Museum. Donations may be made to the MS Agricultural and Foresty Museum (msagmuseumfoundation.org) or mailed to the MS Ag Museum Foundation at 1150 Lakeland Dr. Jackson, MS 39216.
