Shirley M. Grimes, a beloved figure in her community, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, in Brandon, Mississippi, at the age of 85. Born on October 26, 1939, in Morton, Mississippi, she was known for her kind heart and her love for people. Shirley touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of warmth and compassion.
Shirley dedicated her life to her family, taking immense pride in being a grandmother to her ten grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. She cherished these relationships deeply and found joy in every moment spent with them. In addition to her role as grandmother, Shirley was a loving mother to her four children: Rickie Paul Franklin, Randy (Cindy) Franklin, Tommy O. Franklin, and James (Catrina) Franklin. Her nurturing spirit and generous nature will be remembered fondly by her family.
In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought her joy. She had a passion for cooking, showcasing her culinary talents at family gatherings. Fishing was another pastime she loved, as it offered her the tranquility of nature. Additionally, she found solace in reading, often immersing herself in stories that sparked her imagination.
Shirley’s family ties included her sister Linda Cantrell, who remains a reminder of the strong bond they shared.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Gover Grimes; her son, Donny Grimes; her parents, Jack and Estelle Parker; and her siblings, James Parker and Helen Osburn. Their memories will surely be cherished by those who knew them.
Friends and family are invited to honor Shirley's life during visitation services at Ott & Lee Funeral Homes in Morton, Mississippi, on August 11, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on August 12, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service will follow on August 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at Leesburg Baptist Cemetery in Pelahatchie, Mississippi, with burial services commencing at 3:00 PM.
Shirley's kindness, love for family, and the joy she found in life will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a family that is grateful for the time they shared and the indelible mark she made on their lives.
