Sarah Matthews

Sarah Nell Matthews, age 87, a resident of Florence, MS passed away Thursday, November 5, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 9, 2020 at Star Baptist Church in Star, MS with interment in Star Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church and beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the church.

Mrs. Matthews was born February 17, 1933 in Collins, MS to Charles Lee Steen and Erma Lonez Speed Steen. She was married to Clarence Matthews. Mrs. Matthews worked in banking as a processor. She was a member of Hickory Ridge Baptist Church. She always enjoyed telling stories and making people laugh. She was a stand-up comedian at the lodge. She loved to travel, quilt and knit. She loved her family very much and spending time with them brought great joy to her life. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.

Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Clarence Matthews; parents, Charles Lee Steen and Erma Lonez Speed Steen.

Mrs. Matthews is survived by her daughters, Pamela (Joe) Price, Sherry Matthews, Dawn (Roger) Taylor and Jeannie (Frank) Duffey; sister, Wanda Nicholson; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
