Samuel Theodore Somers Jr. (Ted) was born in Jackson Mississippi on June 5th 1947 to Cleo and Sam Somers. He had two brothers. Pat Somers (Cathy) and Jim Somers (who is deceased). He graduated from Murrah High School and then from Mississippi State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He then took the professional engineering test and passed it on the first try and became a professional engineer. In his teenage years he believed the Lord was leading him to be a civil engineer. He always loved engineering. He began his early career at the State Highway Department. Then he went to work for the City of Jackson where he advanced to City Engineer and later to Public Works Director. In 1978 Ted was awarded Mississippi Engineering Society Young Engineer Of The Year. After retiring from the City of Jackson he went to work for the private sector at ABMB Engineers. He worked there until he decided to retire again.
Ted and Wanda were happily married for 32 years. Ted’s children are Richard Somers, Mollie Reynolds (Shane) and Brad Somers (Brooke) and Robby Somers (Ashley). He has six grandchildren he adored. Brady, Savanna, Ainsleigh, Lucy Rose, Kristin and Ryan.
Ted and Wanda were active members of Raymond Road Baptist Church for many years. He served the Lord as a Deacon and on various committees. He was an active member of Charlie McLemore’s Sunday School class. When Ted and Wanda moved to Brandon five years ago they became active members of Brandon Baptist Church & Roland Ryan’s Sunday School class.
Ted was a kind, humble, hardworking man. He loved the Lord and going to church to worship the Lord. He believed in tithing to the Lord. He loved listening to Charles Stanley and Adrian Rogers preaching on tv. He loved listening to the Gaithers gospel music. He loved Wanda, his kids and his grandkids. He loved Mississippi State Bulldogs, vanilla ice cream and vanilla milkshakes, black coffee, all dogs but especially his dog Milo. He loved math, trucks and the Smoky Mountains.
Ted passed from this life to his eternal life on August 19, 2020. We celebrate his earthly life and the fact that he is now with the Lord Jesus Christ! He no longer has Dementia or Covid. He is completely healed!
