Reed Thomas Nunnelee, 41, of Flowood, Mississippi, went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2026, at his home with his family by his side.
Reed was born May 22, 1984 in Tupelo, MS, to Tori and Alan Nunnelee. He graduated from Tupelo High School in 2002, and attended Mississippi College, where he met and fell in love with his future wife, Kemily Weimer, the fall of their freshman year. During his undergraduate years he played varsity baseball and participated in Shawreth men’s service club. On May 13, 2006 Reed married Kemily at Pinelake and graduated from Mississippi College with a BA in history. Reed then went to work with Fleet Feet where he developed his life-long passion for running. In 2009 he returned to Mississippi College and earned his Juris Doctorate at Mississippi College School of Law where he served as an associate editor on the Mississippi College Law Review. Upon graduation in 2012, Reed worked at Brunini law firm in Jackson before joining Butler Snow’s Finance, Real Estate and Restructuring Group in Ridgeland in 2018.
Those who knew Reed will remember him for his contagious laugh and larger-than-life personality. From his two decades of faithful, spirited service as the animated traffic director at Pinelake Church to accomplishing extraordinary challenges like running the full length of the Grand Canyon and back in a single day, Reed approached life with enthusiasm and determination! Yet beyond all of this, what defined him most was his strong faith in Jesus and his deep love for his family.
Reed recalled:
“At the young age of 6 I was confronted with a very grown-up conviction: that something about me was fundamentally flawed. Yet, not only me, but the whole world was broken. My parents confirmed my suspicions but also showed me how not that long ago, God himself became a man named “Jesus” and stepped into our broken world to make things right again. Jesus lived a perfect life of obedience and died, but more than that, he rose from the grave and conquered death! When I was 6 I put my faith in and pledged my allegiance to that miraculous God-man, substituting my own brokenness to be part of God’s Restoration Project.”
When Reed received the diagnosis of terminal brain cancer in May 2025, he drew on his faith and lived out his days dealing hope to all he encountered. Be it in a hospital waiting room at MD Anderson in Houston, TX, or walking the trails in Flowood, he told everyone he encountered about the hope and joy found in Jesus despite our earthly circumstances. He led his family in giving thanks in all things, and he spoke words of promise by sharing his story of God’s transformation of his life. Reed’s life and death are ultimately a testament not only to the brokenness of the world, but the hope we have in Christ!
From the moment Kemily grabbed Reed’s heart their first time meeting, they shared a love story so unique and special it could only be orchestrated by God. They lived out the gospel throughout their 19 years of marriage and the picture of devotion, sacrifice, and unconditional love eternally impacted their children, friends, and community around them. As Reed said, 'this was never meant to be a one-man race' and Kemily and Reed strove together through every step of their marriage. Their marriage is an inspiration and a challenge to all of us to continue the race together.
Reed was preceded in death by his father Alan Nunnelee, and grandparents Pat and Sandra Nunnelee, Patricia Bedells, and Rick Bedells. Reed is survived by his wife, Kemily, and their four children, Thomas, Harper, Jane Alan, and Lucy. He also leaves behind his mother Tori Nunnelee Barber (Joe), sister Emily Nunnelee Thompson (Morris), brother Nathan Nunnelee (Colleen), mother and father-in-law Sue and Chuck Weimer, brothers-in-law Eric Weimer (Emily) and Jacob Weimer, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, stepsisters, family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Pinelake Church Reservoir Campus on Monday, April 6 from 12:00-2:00 PM with the funeral service following at 2:30 PM. Ott and Lee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Gabby Strong Foundation, www.gabbystrongfoundation.org
“Words fail many times to convey meaning (they are such meager things!), but I hope you feel my gratitude when I cannot fully write it. Long live the run, and to God be the glory!” - Reed
