Rebekah Jo Brewer Cooksey
Early Friday morning, March 17, 2023, Rebekah (Becky) Jo Brewer Cooksey of Brandon, MS, was reunited with her heavenly family and fell into the arms of her Heavenly Father and her Lord Jesus.
She left us at the age of 87. She was born September 17, 1935 in Cascilla MS. She was one of 16 children and grew up in Drew MS until she married and had 5 children. As a military wife they moved often from one military post to another, in and out of the country. She was often the primary caregiver raising their children while her husband was away on duty assignment. She was a devout Christian and Ordained Minister and loved studying the bible and attending church. She was rarely without a spiritual book in her hands often with pen and paper taking notes. She believed deeply her purpose in life was to lead others to salvation.
In 1970 she married Robert Q. Cooksey and with him they Pastored four churches, Brandon Church of God, New Life Christian Fellowship, Mountainview Baptist Church and Harvest Time Church. She recently called Hope Fellowship Church in Brandon MS, her home Church.
Though Rebekah’s health was failing for years, after surviving stage 4 cancer, few people knew the extent in which she struggled. Her joy for life and deepest faith kept her pushing through the pain. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert of 48 years, her parents Luther and Allie Beatrice, siblings Davis, Velma, Lee, LH, and Betty and one grandson Ethan. She is survived by her five children, Tena Myers, Michael (Diane) Yarbrough, Debi Singletary, Mark (Cyndie) Yarbrough and Eric (Stacy) Yarbrough; five step children, Elizabeth Cooksey, Sharon Cooksey, Robert Lee Cooksey, David Cooksey and Pam Cooksey; 8 brothers and sisters, Oliver, Thelma, Wesley, Herbert, Faye, James Harrison, Sharon and Oral and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon MS on Tuesday March 21, 2023 beginning at 11:00am with Chapel services to begin at 12:00pm and burial services to follow in the Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS. In Lieu of flowers family request donations be made to the Nonprofit organization Mississippians Against Human Trafficking, P.O Box 12292, Jackson MS 39236.
