Odis Lamar Cole, a loving husband, and devoted father passed away on September 1st, 2023 in Brandon, Mississippi. He was born on August 9th, 1942 in Walnut Grove, Mississippi to Lamar Layton Cole and Susie Pearl Babb Cole. Odis will always be remembered for his laid-back nature, his knack for storytelling, and his heart of gold.
Odis had a remarkable career as a diesel mechanic with Yellow Freight. His dedication and passion for his work were evident to all who knew him. After years of hard work and commitment, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of excellence.
Outside of work, Odis had a wide range of interests and hobbies. He found solace in working in his yard and took pleasure in spending hours tinkering on cars and trucks. Odis was also a collector of tools, guns, and anything he found value in.
Western movies held a special place in Odis's heart. He enjoyed immersing himself in the stories of cowboys and outlaws on the silver screen. Watching these films brought him great joy and gave him the opportunity to appreciate the art of storytelling in yet another form.
Odis had an infectious personality that drew people to him wherever he went. He was a social butterfly who loved meeting new people and getting to know them on a personal level. His silly banter and jokes would light up a room and bring smiles to everyone's faces.
Odis was preceded in death by his father Lamar Layton Cole, his mother Susie Pearl Babb, his wife, Mary Margaret Cole, who stood by his side throughout their journey together. His stepdaughter Angelia McCarty; and three brothers: Freddy, Eugene, and Roger Cole.
Above all else, Odis was a loving father who adored his children. He had three sons: Andrew Cole, Dana Cole, and stepson William Scott Davis. Odis shared a special bond with each of them filled with love and affection.
In addition to his immediate family members, Odis leaves behind his sister, Ada Chamblee (Ricky), brother Larry Cole (Jacquelin); cherished grandchildren: Madison Elizabeth Davis, Amber Charlie Davis, Seth Cole, Sam Cole, Emma Cole, and Christina Barry. He was also a beloved great-grandfather to Maysn and Wyatt Barry, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
A visitation to honor Odis's life will be held on September 5th, 2023 at Ott & Lee Funeral Homes in Forest, Mississippi. The visitation will take place from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, with a Chapel Service immediatley following.
Odis Lamar Cole will always be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his passion for his work, and his ability to bring joy to everyone he met. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and laughter that will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known him. May his soul find eternal peace.
