Nellie Evelyn McBride, lovingly known to all as Nellie, passed away on November 2, 2025, in her lifelong hometown of Morton, Mississippi. Born on June 9, 1937, she was a cherished daughter of Tom Harris Davis and Nolie Alice Tindell Davis.
Nellie's life was characterized by her dedication to family, community, and hard work. She spent many years at B.C. Rogers Processing Plant, where she made her mark in Quality Control, demonstrating her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Nellie was a woman deeply rooted in the joys of life, finding happiness in the simple pleasures of deer hunting with her son-in-law and fishing during the quiet moments of the day.
Her kitchen was a place of welcome, where she prepared three meals a day and insisted that anyone who visited join her at the table. With a generous spirit, she not only fed their bodies but also warmed their hearts, often sending friends and family home with vegetables from her freezer, a testament to her caring nature. Nellie loved to take charge, relishing in the role of the boss and always ensuring she had the last word—a character trait that brought smiles to those around her.
Nellie is survived by her son, James Floyd McBride and his wife, Brenda, of Morton; her daughter, Sicily Ann Ivy and husband, Richard, of Morton; two sisters, Virginia Thompson and Gladys McDaniel; three brothers, Linn Davis, Earnest Davis, and Glenn Davis; as well as seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She will be remembered fondly by a host of friends who were touched by her kindness and warmth.
Nellie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James A. McBride, her son Joe McBride, and her siblings Robert Lee Jefferson Davis, Tom Davis, Louise Boone, Jeneva Broom, and Linda McNabb. Her legacy of love, generosity, and spirited leadership will forever live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
