Nell Martin Farmer

August 20, 1926 — March 7, 2026

Brandon, MS

Nell Martin Farmer, 99, of Brandon, MS, joined her Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 7, 2026. She was affectionately known as Aunt Nell to those who knew her best.

Nell was born on August 20, 1926, and grew up in the Cato Community of Rankin County, where she graduated from Johns High School and went on to attend Hinds Junior College. She met and married Benny "Red" Farmer, and together they built a life and raised two sons, Rodney and Fred. Early in her life, Nell became a licensed cosmetologist, owning and operating Nell's Beauty Salon in Brandon, MS.

Wherever Red's work took them across the Southeast, Nell had a way of making every place home, always finding a church family and taking an active part in the community. While living in Mobile, AL she opened up her home to help start a new Methodist church.

In 1990, she and Red moved back to Brandon, their hometown, to retire. It was there she became a familiar face in the downtown business community, working at the Cole-Burns House, DeHavens, Boyce Emporium, and Under the Hill Antiques.

Her faith was at the center of her life. She worshiped at Brandon First Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Congeniality Sunday School Class, serving in all offices, and loved singing in the Chancel Choir and Singing Saints.

She is survived by her son, Fred Farmer (Cindy); grandchildren Matthew Farmer (Jennifer), David Farmer, and Mark Farmer; great-grandchildren Ruth, Philip, and Luke Farmer; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benny "Red" Farmer; son, Rodney Farmer; parents, Thomas and Mattie Martin; brothers Earl Martin (Faydelle), Will Martin (Sue), and Fred Martin; and sisters Sue Martin Humphries (Bob), Ruth Adkins (Murphy), and Nina Martin.

Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Brandon First Methodist Church, with services beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Ross Cemetery in Cato, MS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brandon First Methodist Church or a charity of your choosing.
