Roma Sue (Purvis) Thompson, age 81, a resident of Cross Roads passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022 in Madison, MS.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, a devout Christian, that loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Cross Roads Baptist Church, where she served as a children’s Sunday school teacher, for many years. She loved singing in the choir and attending Sunday school classes. There was always dinner cooked for the family after church each Sunday. She was a great cook, (especially her fried chicken). For the last several years, one of her main enjoyments, was listening to Bro. John’s Wednesday night services.
Ever since the death of her husband, Joe Dell, she was never able to cope with life without him.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Dell Thompson, Her parents, Clyde and Decell Purvis, one sister Clynette Walker, and two brothers, Brantley and Kenneth Purvis.
She is survived by a son, Ronnie Joe (Diane) Thompson, and daughter Wanda (Dale) Bridges. One sister, Charlene (Leon) Dye, One brother-in-law, Ricky Walker and one sister- in- law, Carolyn Purvis. Grandchildren, Lance Thompson, Joseph (Diana) Thompson, Josh Bridges and Mandy (Jordan) McQueary. Great grandchildren, Matthew and Morgan McQueary.
Visitation was Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton, MS, and on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at Cross Roads Baptist Church, Funeral Services were at 3:00 pm at Cross Roads. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Officiating the service, Bro. John Vaughn, Bro. Vic Bowman and Bro. Charles Wallace. Serving as pallbearers, Mark Dye, Brian Dye, Heath Dye, Jaxon Jenkins, Nathan Purvis and Tony Lamb. Honorary pallbearers, Edgar Lee Purvis, Irby Hugh Floyd, Neal Dyess, Horace Goldman and Ricky Walker.
