Mildred Augusta Dowdy Tharpe

Mildred Augusta Dowdy Tharpe, 85, of Brandon, MS, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. Visitation will be held at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 5:00pm until 7:30pm followed by a family celebration of her life at a later date.

Mildred was born on Sept. 20, 1938, in Pontotoc, MS, to the late Oscar Dowdy and Muril Puckett Dowdy. She grew up in Clinton, MS and raised her family in Jackson. Mildred was a loving mother and grandmother. She extended her genuine kindness and compassion to everyone she met. Always putting others needs before hers.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Grant Tharpe; and her sister, Resa May Dowdy Walling.

Mildred is survived by her children, Larry Tharpe (Brenda), Eric Tharpe, Timothy Tharpe (Brandy), and Kristy Sykes (Rudy); grandchildren, Hayden Tharpe, Harle Tharpe, Harrison Tharpe (Anna), Bella Maples, Nic Sykes (Heather), Delaney Sykes, and Audrey Cox (Tyler); and six great grandchildren.

Mildred treasured her family and extended family and never missed an opportunity to show it. The amount of joy they brought her simply cannot be measured. She was truly a woman of integrity, compassion, generosity, grace, and faith. May her legacy live on in the countless lives she touched and the family she loved so dearly.
