James “Mike” Michael Cummins, age 69, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
A Celebration of Mike’s life will be 6:00pm Saturday, January 7, 2023, in the chapel of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Visitation will begin at 4:00pm.
Mike was born in Jackson, MS to the late John C. Cummins and Earlene Rhodes Cummins.
An avid hunter, he also enjoyed fishing, baseball, football, and NASCAR. Mike was a great cook who prepared his special red beans and rice every Monday night for dinner. His favorite past-time was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Some of his fondest memories were of coaching Jared and watching Ashley dance when they were children. Mike and Wanda attended Pinelake Church. All those close to Mike knew he was extremely meticulous about keeping his truck in tip-top shape; if it was raining, they were going to drive Wanda’s vehicle. Mike never met a stranger and leaves behind a void in the lives of his loved ones that can never be filled. He will be truly missed.
Mike is survived by his wife, Wanda Cummins of Brandon; children, Ashley Cummins (Erik) Jolly of Brandon, Jared Cummins of Madison; step-children Stephanie (Ryan) Jones of Flowood, and Shelby (Brandy) Rutland of Brandon; brother, Tommy Cummins and niece, Liz Cummins of Oviedo, FL; grandchildren; Sawyer Jolly, Isaiah Cummins, Ezra Cummins, Ava Rutland, Bella Rutland, Myles Rutland, Riley Rutland, Annabeth Hudson, and Abigail Hudson; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to: Pinelake Adoption Ministry, 6071 Hwy 25, Brandon, MS, 39047.
