Melissa Annette Brooks, age 56, a resident of Pearl, MS passed away Saturday, December 24, 2022, in Carthage, MS. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Services will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel, and the burial will be held in Kosciusko, MS at Parkway Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
Melissa was born in Kosciusko, MS on October 1, 1966, to James and Peggy Smith. Melissa worked at Lyle Machinery, and also spent several years working with special needs children in the Rankin County School District.
Melissa loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was known as "Grammy", "Mimi", and "a best friend" to many. Anyone who knew Melissa knew she had the heart of a servant. She gave her heart to the Lord at a very young age. She ministered for the Lord through her gift of music. She attended Crossgates Baptist Church of Brandon.
Survivors include her daughter Briana Brooks; son and daughter-in-law Brent and Ashley Atkinson of Brandon, MS; grandchildren Lyric and Landis Atkinson; sister and brother-in-law Dawn and Lance Rawson or Brandon, MS; niece Erin Rawson and nephews Andrew, Matthew, John Haydu, and Nick Rawson; parents James W. and Peggy Smith of Carthage, MS; mother-in-law Louise Brooks of Brandon, MS. Melissa was preceded in death by her husband of 18 years Frank Brooks.
