Chapel Service: 11am Wednesday in the Ott & Lee Chapel Morton.

Burial: Branch Baptist Cemetery.

Sue Torrence, 88, a resident of the Branch community, went to be with the Lord on February 18, 2023 from her long-time home in the Branch Community in Scott County.  Visitation will be held 5pm-8pm Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton and 10am-10:45am Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at the funeral home.  Chapel service will be held 11am Wednesday, February 22, 2023 in the Ott & Lee Chapel in Morton with burial in Branch Baptist Cemetery.  Bro. Geary Walton and Bro. Michael Giles will officiate the services.  Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.

Born in the Branch Community on January 4, 1935, Sue was the youngest child of George Benton (Speck) and Tennie Massey Coward.  She grew up in the Branch community and attended Branch school.

Sue married the love of her life, J W Torrence, on April 8, 1949.  They were happily married for over 66 years.  They lived in the Branch Community until 1955, when they moved to the greater Jackson area.  In 1979, they retired back to Branch.

She was an active member of the Branch Baptist Church, where she served on several committees.  She loved God and doing his work was a very important part of her life.  She was deeply devoted to her family and thy were the light of her life.  Hosting family gatherings gave her much enjoyment and all holidays were celebrated at “Grandma’s.”

In 1992, she retired from School Pictures Inc. after 31 years.  Her favorite pastimes were sewing and working in her garden, where her “green thumb” was evident.

She is preceded in death by her husband, J W Torrence; parents, George (Speck) Coward and Tennie M. Coward; sister, Nonie “Pearl” Wilson, brothers, George H. “Buddy” Coward and William Jody “Billy” Coward.

She is survived by her beloved children, Jerry W. Torrence (Hollie) of Florence, Danny M. Torrence (Jennie) of Branch, M. Darlene Slater (Steve) of Pearl and Timothy S. Torrence (Karen) of Branch; her only surviving sibling, Wilma Coward Davis; 13 grandchildren, 24 great and 8 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Joshua Torrence, Matthew Torrence, Crisler Torrence, Joseph Torrence, David Torrence and great grandson, Vance Bardwell.  Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jeremy and Nicols Torrence.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Branch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3997 Measels Rd., Branch, MS 39117.
