Mary Cleo Cole Shelton was born on April 13, 1921, and passed from this Earth to her heavenly home July 20, 2022, living a total of 101 years, three months, and 6 days.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Jackie Shelton Reeder and son in law Doug, of Brandon; granddaughter Mary Melissa Reeder Avant and husband Brian of Nesbit, Mississippi; a brother, Marshall Cole and wife Ruby of Puckett; a sister, Tressie Cole Friedlander of Brandon; three great granddaughters and a grandson, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Everette Chester Shelton; a son, Michael Everette Shelton; a grandson, James Michael Reeder; five brothers and one sister.

Mary was born the second child of nine and the first daughter of Walter Quitman Cole, Sr., a farmer and Justice of the Peace, and Emma Melissa Jennings Cole, a homemaker.  Growing up during the Great Depression, Mary helped on the farm and in the home, helping her parents with chores and her younger siblings.

She married Everette Chester Shelton, and bore two children.  She worked at Vickers Machine Works as a machinist until retirement.  Upon retirement, she took care of her grandchildren while her daughter and son in law worked.  She attended Puckett Baptist Church, gardened, and spent time with family and friends until she moved to Brandon in 1998.

A graveside service will be held 10:00 am Friday, July 22, 2022, at Puckett Cemetery in Puckett, MS.
