Mary Lynn (Luper) Thornton McClaskey passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Visitation will begin one hour prior, and she will be laid to rest following the service in New Zion Cemetery in Crystal Springs, MS.
She was born September 4, 1939, in Gallman, MS. She grew up in Crystal Springs, MS, where she attended and graduated from Crystal Springs Consolidated School. After graduating high school, she attended Fondren Sisters School of Cosmetology and worked as a hair stylist for several years before her girls were born. She was a stay-at-home mom until they started school.
She retired March 1, 2003, from the Mississippi State Rating Bureau where she was employed for 34 ½ years. While there, she worked as Insurance Auditor and Supervisor of the Audit Department and in the Windstorm Underwriting Association as Chief Underwriter and Supervisor.
She was a member of First Baptist Church Jackson and was an active member of the Reflections Choir there. Mary Lynn loved to be a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and to travel. She loved her husband and family and was happiest when with them.
Mary Lynn was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Walter Arthur Thornton, Jr., and second husband of 18 years, Allen Russell McClaskey; her parents, William Thomas and Gladys Raine McLendon Luper of Crystal Springs, MS; and brothers, William Dale Luper of Pearl, MS, Earnest Lloyd Luper of Inglewood, CA, James Howell Luper of Raleigh, MS, David Quitman Luper of Crystal Springs, MS, and Sammy Earl Luper of Terry, MS.
She is survived by her 2 daughters, Rhonda Lynn (Don) Ravenstein of Madison, MS and Stephanie Carol (Jim) Mayfield of Decatur, AL; five grandchildren, Natalie Lynn (James) Adams of Gluckstadt, MS, Corey William (Jennifer) Ravenstein of Madison, MS, Amanda Carol (Daniel) Horst of Frankfurt, Germany, James Matthew Mayfield of Decatur AL, and Stephen Paul Mayfield of Decatur AL.; great-grandchildren, Amelia Lynn Adams and Charlotte Elizabeth Lynn Adams of Gluckstadt, MS, Addison Lynn Ravenstein of Madison, MS, Rose Marie Mayfield, Georgia Belle Mayfield and Stephanie Lucille Mayfield of Decatur AL, and June Caroline Horst of Frankfurt, Germany; stepchildren, Russell Lee (Cathy) McClaskey of Clinton, MS, Mark Randall (Brenda) McClaskey of Flowood, MS, Jeffrey Scott (Jean) McClaskey of Brandon, MS and Debra Sue Shanks of Richland MS; step-grandchildren, Joseph (India) Shanks of Florence, MS, Erin Marie (Zack) Martinez of Richland, MS, Abbie (Drake) Jennings of Richland, MS, Brandi Nichole Jones of Flowood, MS, Caitlin (Bill) Rives of Madison, MS, Wyatt (Kelsey) McClaskey of Madison, MS and Meghan McClaskey of Brandon, MS; step-great-grandchildren: Peyton Shanks, Sadie Shanks, Weston Shanks, Allie Katherine Shanks, Hannah Martinez, Braylen Martinez, Atticus Smith, Jolene Jones and Owen and Adalyn Jennings. She is also survived by a large number of nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She lived a life filled with love and was deeply loved and cherished by her family and extended family.
