Mary Ruth Barrett Blackwell, 77, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Merit Health Rankin in Brandon, MS.  Visitation will be 9am Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.  Services are to follow at 11am in the chapel with burial in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Lawrence, MS. 

Mrs. Blackwell was born June 30, 1946, to George Barrett and Lucille Robertson Barrett in Leake County, MS.  She grew up in Morton, MS and graduated from Morton High School.  She was a member of Park Place Baptist Church in Pearl, MS.  She worked as a cashier for Rankin Discount Drugs and Super D Drugs.  She also worked for the first Wal-Mart in Pearl, MS for many years. 

Mary loved to help others in any way that she could.  She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.  Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Johnny B. Blackwell, whom she loved dearly, and by her sister, Dorothy Upton. 

She is survived by her three boys that she loved with all her heart, Michael (Sonya) Blackwell, Steve (Angela) Blackwell, and Rev. John C (Heather) Blackwell; grandchildren, T.J. (Kelsey) Blackwell, Ethan Blackwell, Johah Blackwell, Kara Beth Blackwell, and Sage Blackwell.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
