Martha Jean Forsythe, 89, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Woodland Court in Newton, MS.
Funeral services will be conducted at the First Pentecostal Church in Forest at 12pm Wednesday, August 2, 2023, with Bro. Bill Pitman officiating. Visitation will be held from 5pm-8pm Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the First Pentecostal Church and again before the service from 11an till 12pm. She will be laid to rest in the Forest Memorial Gardens in Corinth, MS.

Ms. Forsythe was born on September 2, 1933, in McNairy County Tennessee to Columbus J. Calvery and Modenia Farris Calvery. At the age of thirteen, they moved to Corinth, MS where she attended school. She enjoyed basketball and skating.
In 1951, she met and married Richard W. Forsythe. He was called to the ministry in 1960. He pastored churches including Ripley, Marks, Meridian, Burnsville, and Forest, MS. She was a great asset to his ministry. She was gifted in hosting special occasions, teaching Sunday School, and working with the ladies in the church. She also served as secretary of the church in Forest for 22 years.
At their retirement in 2004, they became members of Pine Grove Pentecostal Church in Sebastopol, MS.
In 2020, she returned to Forest and back to her home church where she attended faithfully for as long as she was able. She loved her pastor, Rev. Bill Pitman, and his family as well as her wonderful church family. She will be greatly missed by all of those knew and loved her.
Preceding her in death are her parents, four brothers: Herman, Herbert, Willie, and Argene Calvery. Two sisters; Christine Stevenson and Ruth Thomas. And her husband, Richard W. Forsythe.
She is survived by two sons: Monty (Bobbie) Forsythe of Forest, and Greg Forsythe of Jacksonville, FL. Four Grandchildren; Mark Forsythe, Lawanna Havard, Brad Forsythe, and Dustin Forsythe and eleven great grandchildren.
