Martha Root Baker, age 89 of Brandon, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.
A Celebration of Martha’s Life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Brandon Presbyterian Church with Dr. John Dawson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. A private family only burial will follow in Brandon Memorial Gardens.
She was born in 1932 to the late Percy and Claire Root and was the fifth of ten children. After completing high school, she joined the financing arm of General Motors as an accountant where she worked for 40 years before retiring. Martha was a member of Brandon Presbyterian Church for 50 years where she was active in numerous programs. She was an exercise enthusiast enjoying morning group workouts for decades. Martha enjoyed the outdoors including gardening and watching and feeding a wide variety of animals.
She is preceded in death by her parents; five siblings; husband of 39 years, Jerry Baker; and son, Ron Baker.
Martha is survived by her son, Chris (Karen) Baker; daughter, Pam (Keith) Varner; grandchildren, Joshua Varner, and Dylan (Abby) Varner; great-grandchildren, Nash Varner and Cruz Varner; siblings, Ruth Benton, Betty Root, Jon Root, and Jack Root. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brandon Presbyterian Church, 209 S. College St., Brandon, MS 39042.
