Margaret Smith Upton, age 87, and a lifelong resident of the Harperville community died peacefully surrounded by her loving family Tuesday, August 16, 2022, following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Thursday, August 18, 2022, from the Clifton Baptist Church, with Bro. M.L. Wallace, Bro. Jim Burns, Bro. Paul Smith and Bro. Addison Rogers officiating under the direction of OTT & LEE Funeral Home of Forest. Visitation will be held from 5pm-8pn Wednesday at Clifton Baptist Church, and again from 10am till service time at the church on Thursday. Interment will follow in the Clifton Baptist Church Cemetery.
Margaret was born on December 16, 1934, in Harperville to her parents, Neva Ann Dumas Moore and LeRoy Moore. She was a member of the Clifton Baptist Church. She loved country living and taking care of her family was very important to her, as she raised five children. She became a USDA Inspector until her retirement in 1994. She loved people and was a kind, compassionate loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Jack Smith, and later, her second husband, Ray Upton. She was also preceded in death by a brother, L.A. “Buddy” Moore.
Survivors include her five children: Ann Sigrest (Billy Ray) of Forest, Bro. Paul Smith (Karen) of Lena, David Smith (Kim) of Brandon, Wanda Smith of Harperville, and Ronnie Smith (Sue) of Lena. She also leaves behind a legacy of 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, nephew Tommy Moore and niece Jody Park, and a host of friends.
Pallbearers are Brad Sigrest, Lance Sigrest, Jonathan Sigrest, Daniel Smith, Matthew Smith, and Kaleb Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Joshua Smith and Charlie Miller.
