Margaret Elizabeth Herndon 1949-2026
Margaret “Maggie” Elizabeth Herndon, was called home on the morning of Friday April 24, 2026 after a brief battle with cancer. She passed peacefully with her husband Marty at her side.
Margaret, the beloved daughter of Steve and Ruth Biggers, was born on March 10, 1949 in Kilmichael, MS. She is survived by her husband Marty Herndon, her sons Brad and Ben Barham, her step children Ryan, Lance, and Leah Herndon, and her sisters Janice Biggers and Gloria Weathers. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Tommy Biggers.
Margaret’s formative years were spent at Kilmichael High School and at the family Hardware Store. She was the head majorette for the Hornets of Kilmichael as well as the recipient of the Balfour and Betty Crocker awards (although cooking wasn’t her greatest gift). As the president of her Phi Mu sorority, and a member of the Statesmen’s cheerleading squad, Margaret enjoyed her college years at Delta State University. Upon college graduation, Margaret left for Europe to find herself. Six weeks later she returned enlightened and with stories of great adventures.
Margaret began her career as an English teacher at Forrest High School. She later excelled in the Real Estate and Insurance markets. The career she loved the most was her retirement with her husband Marty and their matching license plates, THU and THU2.
Maggie loved life, and was kind and welcoming to all. Loyal to her many friends; always true to her convictions. She was an amazing mother, daughter, sister, and wife. Next to service to her church community (and going to the beach), her greatest joy was being “GiGi” to her grandchildren. Maggie’s spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
Services will be held on Monday April 27th at Crossgates Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 9:00 and service thereafter at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossgates Methodist Church.
