Margaret Elizabeth Herndon 1949-2026
Margaret “Maggie” Elizabeth Herndon was called home on the morning of Friday, April 24, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. She passed peacefully with her loving family by her side.
Margaret, the beloved daughter of Steve and Ruth Biggers, was born on March 10, 1949, in Kilmichael, MS. She is survived by her husband, Marty Herndon; her sons, Brad and Ben Barham (Kathryn); her step-children, Ryan (Lucy), Lance (Ashley) Herndon, and Leigha McLendon (Nick); and her sisters, Janis Biggers and Gloria Weathers. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Tommy Biggers.
Maggie's formative years were spent at Kilmichael High School and at the family hardware store. She was the head majorette for the Hornets of Kilmichael, as well as the recipient of the Balfour and Betty Crocker awards (although cooking was not her greatest gift). As president of the Phi Mu sorority and a member of the Statesmen’s cheerleading squad, Maggie enjoyed her college years at Delta State University. After graduating college, Maggie left for Europe to find herself. Six weeks later, she returned enlightened and with stories of great adventure.
Maggie began her career as an English teacher at Forest High School. She later excelled in the real estate and insurance markets. The career she loved the most, after being a mother to her two boys, was retirement with her husband, Marty. This was expressed by their matching license plates, THU and THU2.
Maggie loved life and was kind and welcoming to all, loyal to her many friends and always true to her convictions. She was an amazing mother, daughter, sister, and wife. Her three greatest joys in life were being “GiGi” to her grandchildren, service to her church community, and going to the beach. Maggie’s spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
