Lynne Overby Cavanaugh Bailey, 78, of Oxford, MS, died on November 23.
She was predeceased by her parents, Norris Overby and Maureen Turner Overby Hale, her husband, Bill Bailey and her brothers, James (Buddy) Overby and Layne Overby. She is survived by her son, Jay Cavanaugh, his wife, Dianna, three granddaughters, Savannah, Cassidy and Delaney Cavanaugh, her brothers, Sam Hobson and Wayne Overby and a host of nieces and nephews.
Lynne attended the University of Mississippi, where she was named an Ole Miss “Cutie”. After her time at Ole Miss, she was a Flight Attendant for United Airlines, and a Sales Manager for Clairol. She later combined her sales skills with her own entrepreneurial spirit to open her own businesses: Merle Norman Cosmetic Stores in Hammond, LA, and MAURLO Cosmetics - its name, a clever nod to her mother and best friend, Maureen, and her own initials, L.O. Lynne and her husband Bill loved to travel. It was their love of travel that spurred them to open their most recent venture, Premier Travel, in Gulfport, MS.
A lover of Mississippi history, Lynne was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Confederacy. She researched her ancestry before the convenience of the internet, traveling to libraries and county courthouses across the South to find information needed to trace her family’s genealogy.
Lynne was a woman of great faith. She was raised in the Brandon Methodist Church, and a member of a local congregation wherever she lived - even serving as a missionary in Mexico. She possessed a resurrection faith and is now enjoying the rest and peace she has long awaited.
She will be missed for her keen wit, impeccable style and deep and abiding love for her family.
Visitation will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 12-1 pm, with a funeral service at 1 pm, followed by burial in the Old Brandon Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Davis Bailey will officiate.
