Linda Carol Hines Cates, beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on June 3, 2025, at her home in Morton, Mississippi, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 1, 1957, in Attala County, Linda was a beacon of warmth and kindness in the lives of all who knew her.
Linda will be remembered for her loving heart and her passion for cooking. She had a special talent for bringing family together through delicious meals, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Her grandchildren, Dylan Rankin, Kilee McLaurin, Brionna Cates, and Landon Cates, were the apples of her eye, and she took great joy in watching them grow. Linda also enjoyed her quiet moments, never missing an episode of “The Price is Right,” a testament to her simple pleasures in life.
As a supervisor at Koch Foods for many years, Linda embodied dedication and hard work, traits she instilled in her children, Tammy and Joshua, ensuring they always felt loved and provided for. Her daughter, Tammy Holmes Frith was a particular source of pride and joy for Linda, and they shared countless moments that strengthened their bond.
A devoted member of New Hope Fellowship Church, Linda's love for the Lord was evident in her daily life and interactions, and she inspired many with her unwavering faith.
Linda is survived by her loving children, Tammy(Randall) and Joshua; her cherished grandchildren; and her great-granddaughter, Iris Cates. She also leaves behind her siblings: Mary Guy, Nina Franklin, Charlotte Lewis, Charlene Weeks, Sue Ellen Alford, Charlie Ray Hines, Jane Brown, Robert Earl Bynum, Rita Fay Gray, Ricky Ray Bynum, and Roma Gay Thweatt, along with a special friend, Larry Lynn Meeks, and a host of other family members and friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Hines and Earline Huggins Hines; her first husband, Henry C. Holmes; her second husband, Britt Cates; and siblings Viola McGivney, Annie Faye Shoemaker, and Austin Hines.
Visitation will take place on June 6, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Ott & Lee Funeral Homes in Morton, MS.
Linda Carol Hines Cates' legacy of love, kindness, and family will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
