September 29, 1942 — November 25, 2022

Brandon, MS

Larry Keith Salter, Sr., 80, died Friday, November 25, 2022, surrounded by his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS on Sunday, November 27, 2022, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and from 9:30 am - 11:00 am at Brandon Baptist Church, with the memorial service to follow at 11:00 am on Monday, November 28, 2022. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Gardens.

Larry was born September 29,1942, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a graduate of Our Lady of Victories High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Mississippi College and master's from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Religious Education.

Larry began his ministry as Minister of Youth at Eudora Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. He then went on to serve as Minister of Education at State Boulevard Baptist Church in Meridian, MS and at First Baptist Church in Brandon, MS. In 1975, he was called to the MS Baptist Convention Board where he served as Consultant in the Sunday School Department and later as the Chief Procurement Office until his retirement.

Larry was a charter and faithful member of Brandon Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School teacher and deacon for many years. He was a loving, kind, hardworking, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Affectionately known as “Pop” to his children and grandchildren, he taught by example the importance of putting God first, then family second. Nothing made him happier than having his family all together under one roof. We never questioned if he loved or cared for us because he made it so obvious to each of us. He enjoyed making new friends and never met a stranger.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Frank Salter and Lucille Oliver, grandson Cole Stringer.

He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Connie Ivy Salter; son Keith Salter and wife Suzanne, son Alan Salter; daughter Susan Glass and husband Todd; and five grandchildren, Ryan, Reed and Julianna Salter, Ella and Harlan Stringer.
