Larry Paul Carter

January 16, 1948 — December 24, 2025

Brandon

Larry Paul Carter, 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at his home in Brandon, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon from 9:30 to 10:30 am, followed by a graveside service in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl beginning at 11:00 am.

Larry came into the world on January 16, 1948, in Meridian, Mississippi, the youngest of three children born to Frank Elliott Carter and Lukie Jay Peebles Carter. He grew up in Philadelphia, Mississippi, and graduated from Neshoba Central High School. He later served in the Army Reserves for six years during the Vietnam War. He worked for General Motors for many years in the Delco Remy parts plant in Meridian.

On September 7, 1973, he married Sharon Smith, and together they shared 52 years of devoted marriage. They also had one daughter, Candace, whom Larry cherished dearly. Larry was a member of Southside Methodist Church in Philadelphia growing up, and together, Sharon and Larry were members of Antioch Southern Methodist Church in Martin, Mississippi, where he was baptized. In 2002, the couple moved from the Martin community to Brandon to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. Here, they found joy in ministering to the people of the community by getting to know those around them and sharing the love of Jesus through small acts of kindness and Bible verses.

Larry is reunited in heaven with his parents, Frank and Lukie Jay Carter; brother, Kenny Carter; brother-in-law, Mack Robinson; and nephew, Douglas Robinson, Jr.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Sharon Carter; daughter, Candace Heard (Stephen); grandchildren, Carter Heard (Christina), Jake Heard, and Mina Heard; sister, Martha Robinson; sister-in-law, Betty Carter; nieces and nephews, Marshal Robinson, Kyle Carter, and Lucy Finney (Patrick); and great niece, Sophia Lucille.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Larry’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Samaritan’s Purse, or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
