Katherine Ann DeLashmet Wheeler of Brandon, Mississippi passed away on Thursday August 27th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Kathye will be remembered as someone who was quick with a smile or a joke, loved to tell a good story, and was full of life and energy. She had a way making people feel welcome and loved, and her presence could light up a room. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend whose love and kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Kathye was born October 19th, 1955, to John I. and Pete DeLashmet. She was the oldest of three siblings. Kathye and her sister Jeannine were very close in age and the closest of friends throughout their lives. Kathye graduated from Clinton High School in 1973. She treasured the friendships she made throughout the years, many of which she lovingly maintained and carried with her for decades. She had a gift for staying connected to the people she loved no matter how much time had passed.
Later in life, Kathye married Robert (Bob) Wheeler. Together, they shared a loving and beautiful marriage spanning nearly 30 years until Bob’s passing in 2021.
Kathye found joy in gardening and nature. She had a natural gift for making things grow. Flowers, fruit trees, shrubs and vines all flourished under her care. Her home and garden were always places where family and friends could gather, and she took great joy in being surrounded by her loved ones. She had a generous heart, a strong spirit, a contagious laugh and a way of making everyone feel like they belonged.
Above all else, Kathye took the greatest pride and joy in her family. She poured her heart into the lives of her son, stepson, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, loving them deeply and taking immense pride in each of them. She was the kind of mother and grandmother who showed up, gave endlessly, and made sure the people she loved knew they were loved. She celebrated their accomplishments, cherished their time together, and created countless memories that will remain with them forever.
Kathye leaves behind a legacy of love through her son Davis Young, her stepson James Paul Wheeler (Kayla), her four grandchildren, Dylan Young, Ainsley Young, Elliott Wheeler, Emerson Wheeler, her great-grandchild Banks Young, her sister Jeannine Anderson (Toby), her brother Bubba DeLashmet (Lisa), and her beloved dog, Zoe.
Her family and friends will remember her for her laughter, her stories, her fiercely independent and spirited nature, and most of all, the unconditional love she gave so freely.
Kathye is preceded in death by her husband, Bob Wheeler, and brother John I. DeLashmet Jr.; and her parents, John I. and Pete DeLashmet.
A Private Celebration of Life will be held for close family and friends
