Joyce’s story began on November 26, 1945 in Boaz Alabama, the 2nd child to Roy and Willene Hefner. Later her family moved to Auburn Alabama where she lived out her childhood, developed a love for all things Auburn and later met the love of her life, WJ “Will” Hyche. They married December 21, 1963 during her senior year at Auburn High School. After a few years of marriage, they settled in Rankin County Mississippi where she raised a family and lived for the rest of her life. Joyce’s role as wife and later Mother to Scottie and Celtie were what she considered her highest calling. Her hands were never idle. Joyce rose early to have coffee and spend time alone with Jesus to prepare for her day. Her days were spent in service to her family and others. She enjoyed nature and she received great joy by sharing from the bounty her garden each year. Joyce sewed for many years and made countless Easter and Christmas dresses for Celtie. After excelling in her role as wife and mother, she was joyfully promoted to Granny in 1996. She loved being Granny and spent endless hours at ballparks, church and school programs and any other events to love and support her grandchildren.
She transitioned to her eternal and heavenly home on the morning of May 26, 2020 while holding WJ’s hand and was greeted by several family members who had preceded her in passing. They included her Mother and Father, Roy and Willene Hefner; her sister, Patricia Kay Sykes; her nephew, Brad Hefner and treasured aunts and uncles include Ruby Faulkner and Farrell Jones. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Wilburn Hyche Jr. (who she called WJ): her son, David Scott Hyche (Suzy) their children William Nolan Hyche, Augusta Foust (Alex) and Madison Leber (Kyle) and her daughter, Celtie Ann Wade (Dean) and their daughters Molly Ann Wade and Mallory Grace Wade. She is also survived by her brother, Coy “Mac” Hefner (Annette) of Riverchase, Alabama.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am Friday, May 29, 2019 at Barnett Cemetery on her family property. Dr. Jeff Holland will officiate. The family request that social distancing guidelines be observed at all times.
Pallbearers are William Hyche, Dean Wade, Willie Rivers, Ben Christmas, Jim Ruff and Bill Rivers.
While feeling a tremendous loss, Joyce’s family does not grieve as those who are without hope but rejoices in the blessed assurance that she had put her faith in Jesus Christ. As such, they confidently look forward to a joyous reunion.
