Joseph "Joey" David Delaski, age 51, passed away at home after a brief illness on Saturday October 19, 2024. He was born on April 7, 1973 to David and Ann Haas Delaski of Pearl, MS.
Joey attended St. Joseph Catholic School, where he was an exceptional four sport athlete and scholar. Upon graduating high school in 1991, he received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD where he was a member of the baseball team. A few months after graduating from the Academy in 1995, while waiting to go to flight school, Joey was diagnosed with leukemia. After starting treatment in Maryland, he moved back home to MS in 1996 to complete his rigorous course of treatment; it was during this time he began dating his wife, Dana. Joey and Dana were married in 2003 and made their home in Brandon, MS.
In 1999, as Joey was getting ready to attend graduate school he was once again diagnosed with leukemia that ultimately required a bone marrow transplant in 2000. Never one to give up easily, Joey played in a golf tournament the week before beginning treatment and graduated with an MBA from Millsaps College in 2003.
Joey worked in medical research for a few years before joining Vector Money Management where he worked as an asset manager and COO. He retired in 2021 and discovered a hidden talent in watercolor painting. He painted things for numerous family and friends as well as the family Christmas card each year.
Joey was a lover of economics and concrete ideas, but also had a creative side which he displayed through intricate cross stitching and watercolor painting. He started golfing with his dad as a teenager, developed a great love for the game, and played for many years at Castlewoods Country Club where he formed lifelong friendships.
Joey is survived by his wife of 21 years, Dana, as well as his parents, Ann and David, his sister Jean Terry (Mark), and three nieces, Rachel, Alexa and Kate and four nephews, Gavin, Roger, Matthew and Gipson. He is also survived by his best friend, Mark Hollis (Karol) and his honorary nieces and nephew, Reagan Jobst (Zack), Kate, and Gibson of South Carolina as well as his bone marrow donor, Joyce Brecken, of Michigan.
Because of his health issues Joey was cared and prayed for by so many people through the years and we appreciate every one of you.
Visitation will be Friday October 25 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. On Saturday October 26, visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am at St. Richard Catholic Church in Jackson, MS.
