Johnny Blackwell

Johnny Bogard Blackwell, age 77, a resident of Brandon, MS passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with interment in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Lawrence, MS. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Blackwell was born July 3, 1943 in Lake, MS to Leon Dent Blackwell and Etta Rae Griffith Blackwell. He was married to Mary Ruth Barrett Blackwell. He was Baptist in faith and a member of Park Place Baptist Church in Pearl, MS. He worked in Newton, MS and Forest, MS managing the Gulf Service Station and at Lindsey Wire Weaving Company in Florence, MS many years before becoming disabled. Mr. Blackwell loved his family very much and spending time with them brought great joy to his life. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

Mr. Blackwell was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Dent Blackwell and Etta Rae Griffith Blackwell; his siblings, Catherine Evans, Nadine Dickerson, D.W. Blackwell, Earline Bounds, Eva Jordan and Nellie Scott.

Mr. Blackwell is survived by his wife of 53 years , Mary Ruth Barrett Blackwell; sons, Michael (Sonya) Blackwell, Steven (Angela) Blackwell and Rev. John (Heather) Blackwell; grandchildren, T.J. Blackwell, Ethan Blackwell, Jonah Blackwell, Kara Beth Blackwell and Sage Blackwell; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
