John Owen Jenkins Jr.

John Owen Jenkins Jr., 87, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. He passed away quietly at home while holding his wife, Ginger’s, hand. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 10am-11am at Oakdale Baptist Church in Brandon, MS with funeral services and burial immediately following at Oakdale Baptist Church and Oakdale Cemetery respectively.

John was born on July 13, 1938, in Jackson, MS to the late John O. Jenkins Sr. and Pearl Estelle Carmichael Jenkins. He was a member and a Deacon at Oakdale Baptist Church and active in the Gideons. He was a graduate of MS State University, served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was self-employed as an accountant. He enjoyed outdoor activities, especially fishing, quail hunting and coaching youth baseball.

John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn “Ginger” Jenkins; two sons, J. Michael Jenkins (Janie), Jeffrey C. Jenkins (Fonda) and three grandchildren, Haley Jenkins M.D. (Noah Alcodray), Cade Jenkins (Emma) and Ryan Jenkins.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brandon Gideons at P.O. Box 324 Brandon, MS 39043.
