Born on March 23, 1948, in Jacksonville, Florida, John was the son of the late Edmund R. Fredrick and Maricathryn Rita Mack Fredrick. He grew up in St. Augustine, Florida, where he began a long and successful career in over-the-counter pharmaceutical sales with the A.H. Robins Company. In the mid-1990s, his career brought him to Mississippi—a move that would change his life forever when he met the love of his life, Shirley. The two were married on January 1, 1996, and shared nearly three decades of love and devotion.
John was an avid football fan who loved cheering for both the University of Florida and Florida State University. He enjoyed driving and collecting Corvettes, as well as model trains—a passion inspired by his father, who was an engineer for the Florida East Coast Railroad System. John could always be counted on to end his evenings with a bowl of ice cream. In later years, as his health declined, he found comfort and joy in watching Crossgates Church services online alongside his beloved wife.
Above all, John will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His greatest joy came from his family—especially watching the younger generations learn, laugh, run, and play.
John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his cherished wife, Shirley Faye Fredrick; children, Tina Conerly (Alan) and Troy Middleton (Sandra); grandchildren, Sabrina (Chance) White, Kaelyn, Ceanna (Nate), and Gavin Conerly, Nathan (Crystal), Dylan (Kathy Jo), Tyler (Meghan), Emilee, Matthew, Luke, Lydia, Lily, Bethany, and Brooklyn Middleton; great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Mackenzie, Lucy, Blair, Josiah, AvaLynn, and Alana Faye (on the way); sisters, Kathleen Fillyaw (Chuck) and Marcia McQuaig; and numerous nieces and nephews.
John’s kindness, humor, and steadfast love for his family will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who were blessed to know him.
