Mr. Joe Wayne Bynum, age 72, a resident of Pelahatchie passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at his home.

Visitation will be held 10am-1pm Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.

Chapel service will be held at 1pm Wednesday from the Ott & Lee Chapel in Morton.

Burial will follow in Myers Cemetery.

Joe Wayne Bynum, 72, of Pelahatchie, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home on May 4, 2025. He was born on April 15, 1953, in Simpson County, Mississippi.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Brenda Bowman Bynum; his daughter, Casey Lynn Poole (Kevin) of Pelahatchie, MS; and his cherished grandchildren, Lawton Burnham , Benjamin Burnham, Brelyn Burnham, Marshall Poole, and Emilee Jo Poole all of Pelahatchie, MS; his mother, Bobbie Quay Usry of Pearl. MS; his sisters, LaWanda Burns (Walter) of Pearl, MS and Jeannie Coleman (Curtis) of Pelahatchie,MS; and his brother, Ken Bynum (Donna)of Petal, MS.

He also leaves behind aunts, uncles, and other family members who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Shelia Quay Bowman ; his father, J.W. Bynum; his stepfather, M.G. Usry.

In his younger years, Joe found immense joy in the thrill of dirt and drag racing. Saturday nights were often spent at the track where his enthusiasm for speed and competition shown brightly. His love for the outdoors extended to hunting, where he cherished special moments spent in nature, particularly the experience of hunting with his daughter and grandson. Fishing was another past time, providing him with peace and an opportunity to bond with family. Joe was dedicated in making lasting memories with his grandchildren, always eager to share adventures and create stories that would be treasured for years to come. If you ever ran across him he would always find a way to show you something on his phone whether it be a picture of his grandkids, a joke, or a recipe he saw on Facebook. He was known for his infectious sense of humor. Joe had a unique gift for bringing laughter into the lives of those around him, he delighted in sharing jokes and corny punch lines. His ability to lighten the mood and bring a smile to faces will be deeply missed.

Joe was a dedicated truck driver for over 40 years. He retired from Shipper’s Express, where he built lasting friendships and was well respected among colleagues and clients alike. His passion for the open road and commitment to his profession were evident in the way he approached his work every day. Joe enjoyed his job immensely, and his positive spirit made a significant impact on those around him.

After retirement, Joe became the embodiment of a loving neighbor and family man, always ready to lend a hand wherever it was needed. You could often find him alongside Brenda in the yard, mowing grass or tidying up. His daughter and grandkids frequently summoned him for their latest wild projects(which is how he recently became a goat farmer), knowing he couldn't resist the chance to get involved. Joe’s generosity extended to neighbors and his church family, always answering the call when someone needed a little extra help. If you asked him what he had done that day he would always reply “ah, just little tinkering here and there”.

Joe’s legacy is one of love and laughter and cherished memories. He leaves behind a family that will forever hold him close in their hearts. His spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered fondly for his smile and kindness and the many lives he touched throughout his life.

A visitation will be held at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 10a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by the service in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Burial will take place afterwards at Myers Cemetery in Pelahatchie.

Pallbearers will be Austin Bowman, Lawton Burnham, Benjamin Burnham, Kevin Poole, Josh Steverson, Ken Bynum.  Honorary pallbearers will be James "Doc" Peavy, Jonathan Sanch, Walter Burns, Dwayne Bowman and Clark Garletts.

Officiating the service will be Bro. Bob Smith and Bro. Rick Hammarstrom.

Joe’s life was full of love, laughter, and the open road. He will be dearly missed.
