Mr. Joe W. Lacey, 88, peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by his family on the evening of Sept. 26, 2024. He was a beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend. 

The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday Oct. 1, 2024, from 10am – 12pm at Ott &Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services will be 12pm on Tuesday Oct. 1, 2024, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Brandon, MS with burial in the Brandon Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MS.

Mr. Lacey was born in Thomastown, MS on March 5th, 1936, to the late Charlie Alton Lacey and Myrtis Christine Higgs Lacey. His early life was spent farming with his brothers and father. Later, he moved into construction as an Operating Engineer on such projects as the Ross Barnett Reservoir, portions of Interstates 20 and 55 and numerous infrastructure projects around Jackson, MS, Baton Rouge, LA and Shreveport, LA. In the ‘70s, he founded Lacey’s Digging Service. He later became the Statewide representative for Mo-Dad Wastewater Treatment Systems. 

Mr. Lacey is survived by 7 children, Darlene Hays (Glenn), Jerry Lacey and Tim Lacey, Troy Blackmon, Forrest Blackmon (Amy), Jaya Grayson (Greg), and one daughter-in-law, Iris Lacey (Billy); 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mr. Lacey was also preceded in death by his Loving Wife, Carol Lee Evans Lacey; father, Charlie Alton Lacey; and his mother, Myrtis Christine Higgs Lacey; brothers, Algie Lee Lacey, Howard Estelle Lacey, and Daniel Lacey; son, William” Billy” Lacey; daughter, Dawn Blackmon-Rainey; grandson Joe William Lacey II.

The family would like to thank all the Doctors and Nurses who skillfully cared for him as his health began to decline. Special thanks to the staffs of; Fresenius Dialysis Clinic, Dr. Steven Wagner, and special nurse Melissa Earls; Jackson Heart, Dr. V. Reid Cotton, and Dr. Catherine E. Lowe; St Dominic Family Practice Associates Dogwood, Shara Beckwith, NP.
