She loved life from a simple goldfish in her aquarium to caring for a loved one in need. Joan loved the simple things in life, like feeding the birds and planting flowers. She was happiest by not what she had but what she had to give.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Harvey; parents, Joe Dotson Massey and Stella Evon Trest; brother, Coy Massey; sisters, Wardene Guy, Thelma Keaton and Shirley Maxine Robbin.
She is survived by her daughter, Lora Walter; granddaughter, Katelyn Walter; son-in-law, Kurt Walter; sister, Jean Barnette (Davis) and a host of friends.
A wife, a mother, a grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you.
You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.
A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.
You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a wife not just as a mother.
For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.
So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep
