Jean T. Carroll, born on August 15, 1938, in Houston, Texas, passed away on May 23, 2026, in Jackson, Mississippi. She lived a full and meaningful life, touching many through her work and love for family and community.
Jean was a dedicated Registered Nurse who served at Hinds General Hospital, now known as Merit Health Central. After many years of compassionate care, she retired, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and professionalism.
Those who knew Jean remember her as someone who truly loved to travel. She journeyed all over the world, exploring new places and embracing different cultures. Jean had a passion for baseball and softball and enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves with great enthusiasm. She also delighted in puzzles and word search games, activities that brought her joy and kept her mind sharp. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she especially loved spending time at the beach, a place that brought her peace and happiness.
Jean is survived by her son, Don Blackmon, and his wife, Betsy; her son, Ken Blackmon, and his wife, Cindy; as well as her four grandchildren: Richard Blackmon and his wife, Sarah; Stephen Blackmon and his fiancée, Reign; Leslie Langham; and Allison McKenzie and her husband, Brandon. She also enjoyed the company of her five great-grandchildren: Joseph Langham, Matthew Langham, Anya McKenzie, Chloe McKenzie, and Tatum McKenzie. Her sister-in-law, Linda Blackmon, and brother-in-law, Billy McCraw, along with his wife, Irene, remain part of her loving family circle.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Wilson Blackmon, and by her parents, Arthur Howard Thornburg and Kathryn Marie Curtis Thornburg, and a grandson-in-law, Paul Langham.
Services to honor Jean’s life will be held on May 28, 2026, beginning with visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Mississippi, located at 1360 W Government Street. The funeral service will follow from 11:00 AM. Later that day, a graveside service will take place at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Carson, Mississippi, at 2:30 PM.
Jean's family and friends will gather to remember her gentle spirit and the many ways she enriched their lives. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
